What is plain language?

Plain language helps you show off your knowledge

When I first learned about plain language in college, reading Plain language is for everyone even experts, one of the things that stood out to me about this style of writing was the idea that when people can easily understand you, they think you’re more knowledgeable.


This concept goes against what you’d expect (or at least what I would have expected!). Dropping technical terms and industry jargon has the opposite effect you want it to have on your audience. It doesn’t hold their attention or prove your expertise. Instead, it leaves you looking unapproachable and makes your content less appealing.


But, if you can communicate what you know in a simple way, it’s more digestible and interesting to people. So, if you want to impress people with what you know about your niche and prove your ability to deliver quality products or services, you should use plain language.


Plain language is more accessible

When you’re using this writing style, your message is more easily digested by more people. This means it’s much more likely to resonate with people and have the impact you want.
